When I first started in the trades thirty-five over years ago, the contractor who would become my father-in-law said, “Take your time. Concentrate on quality. Speed will come.” That was appropriate advice. I started in New York, framing and trimming new houses. Then in the 1980’s I moved to Atlanta to work on a HUD contract remodeling government owned condominium townhouses. Next we trimmed new houses in North Atlanta as well as residential decks and screen porches. In the last seven years, I’ve concentrated on general remodeling and repairs. During my career in the trades, the advice, “concentrate on quality” has stood the test of time.
Biographical Information: Rich Moerschel, firstborn of five boys born to musician mother and German immigrant father in Chicago, taught music theory and history in a Washington DC college after graduate school. The financial pressures of four children redirected his vocational interests to the construction trades. He was tutored by his Italian father-in-law, a successful general contractor in New York.
