Every exterior door in Atlanta should be constructed with a roof over it. Lacking that there are four usual reasons for a leaking front door: a bad threshold; rotted wood on the frame; no drip cap; and missing/defective door weather-stripping. All of these except the drip cap are subject to gradual degradation. The orientation of the house by compass point is the primary problem in Atlanta. Our wind and rain mostly come from the West and South. Houses facing those directions will suffer more damage at their front doors. If a door frame rots once, another door installed of the same wood products will also rot, sometimes in just a few years. Solution: roof over the door or frames made of PVC.
